Edith's HouseEdith, a woman in her young seventies has led an active, full and interesting life. Born in 1924, she has lived through many major happenings of the twentieth century. As an African American woman, Edith has had a unique vantage point of life in the USA. Edith retired from a career as a professor of Health Science at the City University of New York. Currently, her interests include gardening, literature and jazz. She continues her study of jazz piano. Though she is a widow, her home is abuzz with visits from her four adult children and friends.

Edith's home for many years, Prospect Park South, is a community of large and often elegant private homes on very quiet, green, tree-lined streets, just south of beautiful Prospect Park. With the influx of recent immigrants from the Caribbean, Africa, India, the Middle East, Russia and Eastern Europe the surrounding neighborhoods have taken on a ethnic flavor, typical of the hustle and bustle New York is known for. In addition, it is near the prestigious Brooklyn Museum, the famed Botanic Gardens, and a short ride to Brooklyn Heights and the entrance to the Brooklyn Bridge. Adventurous tourists will find a walk in neighboring streets very rewarding.

Edith's home, filled with collectibles, jazz memorabilia, a piano with open music, invites a guest to become enamored with the homes owner. It's warm and lived in quality speaks of comfort. Edith, a gracious, cultured lady, enjoys listening and learning from her guests as well as helping them with ideas for their holiday stay. The guest accommodations are in the basement garden apartment. A double bed and living room sitting area grace the living space. A kitchen and private bath is for the guests use only.

Edith's Homestay New York differs from others in that she offers only a simple welcome dinner and breakfasts are self served with the food you stock for yourself shopping at local stores. Before you leave for the day, stop upstairs and chat with Edith who will be delighted to chat, offer advice and help you get ready to start your days adventure in the comfort of homey, caring surroundings.
