Homestay New York Expands Services

Unique Lodging Service offers wider choice of homes and locations

March 1998 - New York City

Homestay New York, the unique lodging service that places business and leisure travelers in fine, private New York City homes, will offer expanded services starting March 1998. Visitors with Homestay NY pay rates from $95 to a maximum of $135 a night per room, which includes some meals, for a private room in the home of a family, within 30 minutes by public transportation to Manhattan. "That’s less than the price of a Manhattan hotel, and you get to spend time with ’real’ New Yorkers," adds Ms. Wagner. "It’s the tourist’s dream: imagine having a host available to answer questions about how do things and save money in a foreign city!"  Host families live in attractive neighborhoods primarily in Brooklyn which is a borough of New York City adjacent to Manhattan Island. Some Manhattan hosts are also available.

"Our visitors will have a wider choice of homes, in more New York City neighborhoods," explains Helayne Wagner, who owns the business with her husband, Leslie. "We will offer a customized information packet to each visitor, matched to their personal interests, selecting the kind of "inside" information that New Yorkers know best. Our extensive files include current museum exhibits, gallery openings, sales and bargains, the latest  "hot" clubs and restaurants, and tips on how to enjoy the full range of city culture, from Harlem gospel to East Village hip-hop!"

Ms. Wagner has been providing lodging for international travelers for more than a decade.

She personally screens families in pleasant neighborhoods throughout the New York area to guarantee that each Homestay New York family is friendly and helpful.
